dc.description | A fairer and transparent method of sugar content determination in sugar cane factory is eeded to encourage farmers producing high yield of sugar content in canes. A core sampler method was developed to determine an individual yield of farmers’ sugar cane. This method is able to distinguish the value of sugar content of sugarcane sap from each truck. The aim of this research was to design a sugar cane core sampler machine. The design activities were carried out in the engineering laboratory of Indonesian Center for Agricultural Engineering Research and Development (ICAERD), Serpong. Next stages were fabrication of a core sampler prototype, prototype testing, modification of the prototype, and performance test analyses. Performance and functional testing of cane core sampler resulted in that the fastest time of the operating process of sugar cane sampling (9.99 second) was at thehydraulic fluid pressure of 8.96 MPa. However, the lowest power requirement (1.40 kW) was obtained at a pressure of 6.90 MPa and the highest sample weight (1.62 kg) was also obtained at a pressure of 6.90 MPa. Operator skills as well as the density and stability of sugarcane stack influenced on the test results obtained. At the best practice, this study recommends the operation pressure at 7.58 MPa to result in the best consistency of sugarcane sample, both regarding weight (1.30 kg), and percentage of unbroken sample (72.36%).DESIGN OF SUGAR CANE CORE SAMPLERAbstrakMetode penetapan rendemen yang lebih transparan dan adil di pabrik gula sangat diperlukan untuk mendorong petani memproduksi tebu dengan rendemen yang tinggi. Suatu metode core sampler telah direkayasa untuk sistem penentuan rendemen nira individu. Metode ini mampu membedakan nilai nira dari masing-masing lori/truk. Tujuandari kegiatan ini adalah melakukan rancang bangun mesin pengambil sampel (core sampler) tebu siap giling. Kegiatan rancang bangun dilaksanakan di laboratorium perekayasaan Balai Besar Pengembangan Mekanisasi Pertanian (BBP Mektan), Serpong. Rancangan mesin core sampler tebu siap giling diawali dengan penetapan parameter desain dan pembuatan gambar desain. Tahap berikutnya adalah pembuatan prototipe core sampler dan dilanjutkan dengan pengujian dan modifikasi prototipe serta analisis hasil uji. Uji kinerja dan uji fungsional core sampler tebu menghasilkan waktu tercepat per proses pengambilan sampel tebu rata-rata selama 9.99 detik diperoleh pada tekanan fluida hidrolik 8.96 MPa, akan tetapi kebutuhan daya terendah rata-rata (1.40 kW) diperoleh pada tekanan 6.90 MPa dan berat sampel tertinggi (1.62 kg) juga diperoleh pada tekanan 6.90 MPa. Keterampilanoperator serta kerapatan dan kestabilan tumpukan tebu sangat berpengaruh pada hasil uji yang didapatkan. Dalam prakteknya, direkomendasikan untuk beroperasi pada tekanan 7,58 MPa yang menghasilkan konsistensi terbaik dari sampel tebu, baik dalam hal berat (1.30 kg) maupun persentase sampel utuh (72.36%). | en-US |
