| dc.description.abstract | Abstrak Ketersediaan air untuk budidaya padi sawah irigasi semakin terbatas akibat degradasi Daerah Aliran Sungai (DAS), peruntukan air yang kompetitif antarsektor, serta dampak perubahan iklim global. Kondisi ini mengancam ketahanan pangan nasional mengingat sebagian besar produksi padi nasional bergantung pada sawah beririgasi. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengulas strategi dan teknik pengelolaan air yang efisien pada lahan padi sawah irigasi guna mengantisipasi ancaman kelangkaan air. Metode pengelolaan air seperti pengairan berselang (intermittent irrigation), irigasi basah-kering (Alternate Wetting and Drying/AWD), dan pendekatan System of Rice Intensification (SRI) terbukti mampu menghemat penggunaan air signifikan dibanding penggenangan secara terus-menerus tanpa mengorbankan hasil panen. Selain penerapan teknologi budidaya hemat air, optimalisasi pengelolaan air memerlukan perbaikan infrastruktur irigasi, rehabilitasi DAS, serta keterlibatan aktif kelompok tani dalam pembagian air secara adil. Implementasi strategi pengelolaan air terpadu ini diharapkan dapat mempertahankan produktivitas padi sawah, meningkatkan efisiensi penggunaan air, dan mendukung keberlanjutan usahatani di tengah tantangan kelangkaan sumber daya air. Abstract Water availability for irrigated lowland rice cultivation is increasingly constrained due to watershed degradation, competitive inter-sectoral water usage, and the impacts of global climate change. This condition poses a threat to national food security, given that a major portion of national rice production relies heavily on irrigated fields. This paper aims to review efficient water management strategies and techniques in irrigated paddy fields to anticipate the threat of water scarcity. Water management methods such as intermittent irrigation, Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), and the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) approach have been proven to significantly reduce water consumption compared to continuous flooding, without compromising crop yields. Beyond adopting water-saving cultivation technologies, optimizing water management requires the rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure and watersheds, alongside active community participation in equitable water distribution. Implementing an integrated water management strategy is expected to sustain lowland rice productivity, enhance water use efficiency, and ensure agricultural sustainability amid growing water resource scarcity. | |
