Patchouli oil product as insects repellent

Abstract
Indonesia is one of the patchouli oil expor-ting countries. The patchouli oil is used for indus-trial purposes such as perfumes, cosmetics and soap. The characteristic of patchouli oil is fixative to other aromatic materials (ANON., 1986).
Description
Experiments to examine patchouli oil products in the form of solids, and impregnation to filter paper as insect repellent were carried out in the laboratory of the Research Institute for Spice and Medicinal Crops, Bogor from 1993 to 1994. The experiments were arranged in a completely rando-mized designs, Products examined were a mixture of patchouli oil with naphthalene, a mixture of naphthalene with camphor, a mixture of patchouli oil with naphthalene and camphor, a mixture of naphthalene with camphor, naphthalene, and cam-phor. Insects used were Sitophilus zeamais and Carpophilus sp.
