Abstract
Description
Effect of pollination time on fruit setting of four types of vanilla. The experiment was conducted at Natar Experimental Garden, from September 1993 to April 1994. The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the effect of time of pollination on fruit setting of four types of vanilla. The treatments were 2 factors i.e. the timeof pollination (06.00 a.m, 09.00 a.m, 12.00 a.m, 3.00 p.m, amd 6.00 p.m); and types of vanilla (Malang, Ungaran Daun Tipis, Anggrek, and Gisting). The experiment was designed in a randomized block, arranged factorially, with 6 replicates and 5 plants per treatment. The number of flowers pollinated were 60 flowers per plant. The result showed that pollination at 09.00 a.m produced the highest percentage of fruit setting, although was not significantly different with the treatments at 06.00 a.m and 12.00 a.m. Pollination at 06.00 p.m did not produce any fruit. The anggrek type produced the highest percentage of fruit setting among other types of vanilla.
