Abstract
This study aims to evaluate estrous cycles and estrogen and progesterone profile of Ongole crossbred cows (PO) compare with Simmental-Ongole crossbred cows SimPO). The study was conducted for 6 months including a pre-condition period of 2 months. Using 5 PO cows and 5 SimPO cows. Forage feeding and reinforcement feed are given optimally, as well as the provision of drinking water to maintain a body condition score between 3.0-3.5. Parent cattle followed estrusnya cycle up to 3 cycles, symptoms of lust seen by visual observation that is with the emergence of symptoms lust. Blood plasma taken at days 18 to 21 (day 0 of the next cycle) is continued every 6 days until day 18, to analyze the concentration of progesterone and estrogen hormone using ELISA. The results showed that there were variations of estrous cycle length between individuals both on PO cattle and SimPO cattle, but the average estrus cycles were in the normal range of cattle PO 19.92 ± 1.13 days and SimPO cows 18.60 ± 1.34 day. The levels of progesterone hormone on the day leading up to estrous are at high concentrations and decreased at the time of estrous both in PO and SimPO cows. While the estrogen hormone in PO cows increased on the day to 18-20 in the estrous cycle, SimPO cows on day 18 and peak on day 21.
