An experiment on cotton and sesame intercropping on dry land was conducted at the experimental garden of the Bajeng Sub, Research Institute for Tobacco and Fibre Crops Gowa, South Sulawesi. The experiment, was carried out from March to August 1994, The aim was to observe the growth. yield and farm income of cotton and sesame under inter-cropping pation by using various plant spacings of cotton and sesame. Arandomized block design was used with three replications.
The cultivation of several annual crops under single cropping system will narrow the units of the farming. As a result the level of land produc tivity and farmer's income per unit area is low. One of the efforts to overcome this problem is to apply intercropping systems (SAHID et al, 1994).
