Preferensi Petani Terhadap Beberapa Varietas Unggul Padi Gogo, Studi Kasus di Kecamatan Randublatung, Kabupaten Blora

Abstract
Abstract Preferences of Farmers in Several Improved Upland Rice Varieties. Improved new rice variety is one of the main technologies developed by the Indonesian Centre for Rice Research which play a dominant role in increasing rice production in Indonesia. Several strategies of dissemination to introduce the newly developed varieties of rice to the farmers have already been done, but it seems still ineffective. Method of dissemination in which farmers, both as the producer and the consumers have an opportunity to directly participate in evaluating, judging, and selecting the new rice varieties was being introduced. An experiment to evaluate the response of farmers in upland ecosystem to the 8 new varieties, Batutegi, Situ Patenggang. Situ Bagendit, Jatiluhur, Limboto, IR64, Ciherang, and Cimelati and to a breeding line, TB490C was conducted in land areas covered by the young teak trees in Ngliron Village, Randublatung Sub-district, District of Blora, Central Java Province during the WS of 2008/2009. This experiment involved a total of 25 cooperators consisted of farmers, rice traders, seed producers, and the household women. Evaluation on the response of farmers was conducted through the distribution of questionnaires during the cropping season, and through the organoleptic test. Results of this experiment indicated that based on plant type, plant height, number of tillers, and number of panicles, the varieties of Batutegi and Situ Patenggang were the most preferred by the farmers. Based on the type of rice grains, the colour of the rice grain, and the quality of the milled rice, the rice varieties of Situ Bagendit, 1864, and Ciherang were the most preferred by the farmers. While the type of long and slender grains was another character of grain in which farmers like more than the long oval type of rice grains. The organoleptic test showed that farmers favoured to the quality of the milled rice of all varieties tested. Abstrak Varietas unggul padi merupakan inovasi teknologi utama yang dihasilkan oleh Balai Besar Penelitian Tanaman Padi yang berperan sangat dominan dalam upaya peningkatan produksi padi. Berbagai upaya dalam kerangka diseminasi telah dilakukan untuk memperkenalkan varietas unggul padi yang telah dilepas kepada petani. Diperlukan suatu metode agar petani sebagai produsen bisa langsung melihat, merasakan, dan mengadopsi varietas-varietas yang baru dikenalnya. Percobaan untuk mengevaluasi respons petani laban kering terhadap 8 varietas, Batutegi, Situ Patenggang Situ Bagendit, Jatiluhur, Limboto, IR64, Ciherang, dan Cimelati, dan terhadap 1 galur padi gogo, TB490C telah dilaksanakan di lahan hutan jati muda Desa Ngliron, Kecamatan Randublarung Kabupaten Blora, Jawa Tengah pada MH 2008/2009. Percobaan ini melibatkan sejumlah 25 petani kooperator, terdiri atas petani, pedagang beras, penangkar benih, dan ibu rumah tangga. Evaluasi preferensi dilakukan dengan menggunakan daftar pertanyaan yang dilaksanakan sejak pertanaman mencapai fase vegetatif sampai saat fase generatif dan dengan metode uji rasa nasi. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan pada tipe tanaman, tinggi tanaman, jumlah anakan, dan panjang malas, varietas Batutegi dan Situ Bagendit sangat disukai petani. Dari bentuk gabah, warna gabah, dan mutu beras, varietas Situ Bagendit, IR64, dan Ciherang sangat disukai petani. Gabah panjang dan ramping merupakan bentuk gabah yang g lebih disukai petani daripada yang berbentuk agak bulat. Berdasarkari rasa nasi, semua varietas yang diperkenalkan memiliki nasi yang dapat diterima petani
