Abstract
Pigs as one of the meat-producing livestock which are also local resources have the potential to be developed in Papua. The biggest contribution to meet the needs of meat in Papua, comes from pigs, where pigs that are generally kept are local pigs because of the types of pigs that are always included in every traditional ceremony. The research aims to get an overview or basic data on pig farms that can be used as a reference in the development of pigs in Jayawijaya Regency. The research material is as many as 30 pig farmers who are scattered in the Wamena District. The method used is a field survey, direct interviews using structured questionnaires and direct observation in the field by weighing livestock. The results showed for litter size of pig was 7.4 + 2.3; weaning ages 4.0 + 0.7 months; number of weaning 6.8 + 2.3; farrowing interval 8.1 + 0.7 months; birth weight 0.75 kg; weaning weight 12.15 + 0.9 kg and average daily gain 0.08 + 0.02 kg/head/day. The maintenance system carried out by farmers with feed only sweet potatoes and sweet potato leaves does not provide good production and reproductive performance, so there is a need for improved maintenance and feed systems.
