Abstract
Abstrak Sektor pertanian, khususnya budidaya padi, memiliki peran sentral dalam menjaga ketahanan pangan nasional. Kemajuan teknologi pemuliaan tanaman telah memicu perkembangan pesat dalam perakitan dan pelepasan varietas unggul padi yang memiliki potensi hasil tinggi, ketahanan terhadap hama dan penyakit, serta adaptabilitas terhadap perubahan iklim. Artikel ini mengulas perkembangan terkini dalam perakitan varietas unggul padi, tingkat ketersediaan benih berkualitas di tingkat petani, serta tantangan dalam rantai distribusinya. Melalui pendekatan studi literatur dan analisis data sekunder, hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun inovasi varietas unggul terus berkembang pesat, tingkat adopsi dan ketersediaan benih di tingkat petani masih dihadapkan pada kendala sistem perbenihan dan diseminasi informasi. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan sinergi yang kuat antara lembaga penelitian, pemerintah, dan sektor swasta untuk mempercepat pendaftaran, produksi, serta distribusi benih varietas unggul secara berkelanjutan guna mendukung kedaulatan pangan. Abstract The agricultural sector, particularly rice cultivation, plays a central role in maintaining national food security. Advances in plant breeding technology have driven rapid progress in the development and release of high-yielding rice varieties characterized by high yield potential, resistance to pests and diseases, and adaptability to climate change. This article reviews recent advancements in the breeding of superior rice varieties, the availability of quality seeds at the farmer level, and the challenges within the distribution chain. Utilizing a literature review approach and secondary data analysis, the findings indicate that despite the continuous surge in seed innovation, the adoption rate and seed availability at the farm level remain constrained by seed system bottlenecks and information dissemination gaps. Therefore, strong synergy among research institutions, government bodies, and the private sector is essential to accelerate the registration, production, and sustainable distribution of high-yielding rice seeds to support food sovereignty.
