dc.description.abstractAbstract. Soybean is economically important crop in Indonesia and its demand continues to increase. However, soybean production has decreased year by year due to the infection of pest and disease. Among many soybean diseases, rust is the most significant threat to soybean plant in Indonesia which causing serious economic damage to soybean yield. In Indonesia, there were soybean production centers, such as Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and West Nusa Tenggara. Yield losses due to rust disease up to 90%. One of the control methods for rust disease is the use of resistant varieties. This study aims to evaluate the resistance of soybean genotypes against rust disease. The research was conducted in green house of Indonesian Legumes and Tuber Crops Research Institute, Malang, East Java during dry season. A total of 46 genotypes were evaluated for the resistance against rust disease with three replicates. Each replication consisted of three pots, each of which consisted of three plants. Inoculation of rust disease spores was carried out at 2 weeks after planting (WAP). Observations were done at 7 WAP by using a method from the International Working Group on Soybean Rust (IWGSR), such as score of rust disease severity, the number of pustules per leaf, and the presence of spores in the pustules. Soybean resistance was determined by the table in which adjusted to the score. The result showed that out of 43 genotypes tested, 12 genotypes categorized as resistant and 31 genotypes categorized as moderately resistant to rust disease.en_US
