dc.description.abstractAbstract Effect of Nitrogen Fertilizer on Irrigated Rice. Nitrogen represents the main nutrient needed by the rice plant and most farmers apply urea fertilizer as source of nitrogen for their crops. The efficiency of urea was very low, and therefore, it required a correct rate to be applied at particular growth stages in a particular location. An experiment to evaluate the response of irrigated rice crops to urea fertilizer has been carried out in Penggalaman, Banjar District, South Kalimantan. Treatments were urea fertilizer applied at the rates of: 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 kg N/ha, arranged in a Randomized Block Design with five replications. Results of the experiment indicated that the urea prill improved plant height, numbers of tillers/hill, numbers of panicle/hill, numbers of filled grains/panicle. 1,000 grains weight, dry matter weight, the content of N in dried biomass and grains, and the content NH, 'soil. Application of urea at the rate of 90 kg N/ha was appropriate to produce a total of 5,26 t/ha of rice grain. Abstrak Nitrogen merupakan hara utama yang diperlukan tanaman padi, dan sebagian besar petani menggunakan pupuk urea pril sebagai sumber utama hara nitrogen. Efisiensi fisiensi pupuk pupuk tersebut sangat rendah, karena itu dibutuhkan takaran yang tepat sesuai respons tanaman padi pada tiap tipologi lahan spesifik. Penelitian untuk mengevaluasi respons tanaman padi terhadap pupuk urea pril di lahan sawah irigasi telah dilakukan di Desa Penggalaman, Kabupaten Banjar, Provinsi Kalimantan Selatan. Perlakuan berupa dosis pupuk urea pril 0 kg, 30 kg, 60 kg. 90 kg, dan 120 kg N/ha, disusun dalam rancangan acak kelompok dengan lima ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pupuk urea pril meningkatkan tinggi tanaman, jumlah anakan/rumpun, jumlah malai/rumpun, jumlah gabah/malai, gabah isi, bobot 1.000 butir gabah, berat brangkasan kering, bobot gabah, kandungan N brangkasan dan gabah, serta kandungan NH tanah tanah setelah panen. Pupuk urea dengan dosis 90 kg N/ha menghasilkan gabah sebesar 5,26 t/ha. Di antara komponen hasil, jumlah malai/rumpun sangat berperan terhadap hasil gabah kering. Makin tinggi takaran pupuk N yang diberikan, makin tinggi kandungan N dalam brangkasan, sedangkan terhadap kandungan N dalam gabah bersifat kuadratik. Urea pril juga meningkatkan klorofil daun, NH, dalam tanah, dan menurunkan pH tanah.
