Abstract
Liberika coffee is one type of coffee that is cultivated in Indonesia, this plant is an introduction to be planted in the lowlands. Agronomically, Liberica coffee can grow on marginal lands, is tolerant of leaf rust and fruit borer attacks. This study aims to identify and determine the morphological characters of Liberika coffee plants found in South Halmahera Regency. Exploration activities were carried out at the Bacan Experimental Garden in South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province in July-October 2020. This exploratory research was conducted by survey and sampling using the accidental sampling method around the Bacan Experimental Garden which still has liberica coffee plants. The observation of coffee morphological characters was based on the IPGRI descriptor guide. The characterization that has been carried out includes quantitative and qualitative characters. The results of the identification of morphological characters of liberica coffee on Bacan Island showed a diversity of morphological characters. From the germplasm collection in the Bacan Experimental Garden, liberica coffee has a prospective development opportunity in South Halmahera.
