Abstract
The study on the Production of Quality Rice Seeds in Semi-intensive Lowland of Tanjung Jabung Barat District, Jambi Province. One of the factors determining the rice yields in Jambi was the continuous cropping of a particular rice variety without any crop rotation and lack of quality rice seeds in the areas. It is understandable therefore, that quality rice seeds should be available and easily obtained by farmers when needed. For this purpose, the development of rice seeds system to facilitate farmers in obtaining quality rice seeds is paramount. A study to evaluate the development of rice seeds production system was executed in Sri Agung Village. Tungkal Ulu Sub-district, Tanjung Jabung Barat District, Jambi Province during the dry season of 2008. Results of the study indicated that the rice yield of 5.70 that of milling dried grain produced by the variety of Ciherang was certified as quality rice seeds as much as 3.5 t/ha. Economically, it provided the farmers a total benefit of Rp6,832,500 with the R/C ratio of 2.4 when they were sold for consumption. The benefit obtained became as much as Rp. 8,932,500 with the FUC ratio of 2.7 when the seeds were sold as quality rice seeds. It appeared that the benefit obtained from producing quality seeds was approximately Rp. 2,100,000/ha higher as compared to that obtained from producing grains for consumption.
Abstrak
Salah satu penyebab rendahnya produksi padi sawah di Provinsi Jambi adalah penggunaan varietas yang sama pada suatu wilayah secara terus menerus dalam kurun waktu yang lama. Di samping itu, seringkali benih padi berkualitas sulit diperoleh di lokasi penanaman. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan ketersediaan benih varietas unggul baru (VUB) yang berkualitas, perlu dibangun sistem perbenihan benih VUB padi, sehingga dapat menjamin ketersediaan VUB padi pada waktu yang tepat. Pengkajian untuk membangun dan membuka peluang usaha perbenihan padi VUB Ciherang telah dilaksanakan di Desa Sri Agung, Kecamatan Tungkal Ulu, Kabupaten Tanjung Jabung Barat, Provinsi Jambi pada MK 2008. 008. Hasil pengkajian menunjukkan bahwa hasil GKG varietas Ciherang sebesar 5,70 t/ha dapat dijadikan benih sebesar 3,5 t/ha. Hasil analisis usahatani menunjukkan bahwa, apabila hasil padi dijadikan konsumsi diperoleh keuntungan Rp6.832.500 dengan nisbah R/C 2,4, sementara kalau dijadikan benih diperoleh keuntungan Rp. 8.932.500 dengan nisbah R/C 2,7. Dengan demikian, terdapat selisih keuntungan antara padi konsumsi dengan padi untuk benih sebesar Rp. 2.100.000/ha. кап
