Kajian Sumber Bahan Bakar Nabati Berbasis Sorgum Manis

The Impact of Cropping Intensity on Maize Marketing in Rainfed Area
(Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan Pertanian, 2013) Margaretha S. Lalu; Muh. Azrai; M. Aqil
Subsistence/semi commercial farmers have been slow to adopt new technologies of maize cultivation even when they make economic sense and compatible with their socio cultural values. Generally, that is because of the high cost of inputs such as seed, fertilizer and pesticides. Therefore its needed to explore the potential adoption of technology prior to dissemination to the farmers. Indonesian Cereals Research Institute had been introducing Cropping Intensity (CI) four times per year or CI 400 in order to boost total maize production. The cropping pattern introduced i.e paddy – maize – maize –maize. CI 400 provides several advantages such as enhancing maize production and cropping intensity that subsequently increase farmers‘ income. In addition, the CI 400 application could saves labor by 1.94%. The CI 400 had been tested at Bontonompo district, South Sulawesi Province in 2010. Upon adoption of the CI 400 model, most of farmer gained income twice to three times higher due to the high price during the period of Mei to August 2010. The price of maize during that period varied from Rp 2,000/kg to Rp 2,200/ kg. The technology shows promise in ensuring the continuity of maize farming and has the potential to be extended to other region.
