Rice Grain Quality Evaluation of Promising Lines of Rice under Irrigation and for Salinity Tolerance
(Balai Besar Penelitian dan Pengembangan Bioteknologi dan Sumber Daya Genetik Pertanian, 2022-01-19) Handoko ...[at al], Dody D.; Balai Besar Penelitian dan Pengembangan Bioteknologi dan Sumber Daya Genetik Pertanian
Abstract. Improved rice (Oryza sativa L.) variety is one of the main components of technology for increasing rice productivity and quality. The research aimed to determine the grain quality of some promising lines from the advanced breeding generation of irrigated and saline tolerant rice. A total of 37 promising lines from the multilocation test of irrigated rice (19 lines and 4 check varieties) and saline tolerant rice (12 lines and 2 check varieties) harvested in 2018 were used in this study. The rough rice of total lines was analyzed for the physical, milled rice physical, and physicochemical quality. The results showed that, in general, the rice grain quality of promising lines for salinity tolerance was similar to those under irrigation. The range of head rice, unpolished rice, polished rice yield, protein, and amylose content were 53.08–97.43%, 73.68–80.84%, 67.59–71.61%, 7.80–10.25%, 14.01–26.66%, respectively. Among the irrigated rice, B15886M-12D-SKI-5-2-1 and BP14352E-2-2-OKR had the highest head rice, unpolished and polished rice yield, whereas, among the salinity tolerance, BP14080-5B-6-5-TRT-27-4-SKI-5-B, BP14082-2B-2-3-TRT-23-1-SKI-1-B, BP14082-2B-2-5-TRT-36-2-SKI-3, and BP14082-2B-2-5-TRT-35-2-SKI-2 had the highest head rice, unpolished and polished rice yield. Based on the grain quality, they can be considered for released as new improved rice varieties suitable for irrigation or salinity tolerance.
