dc.description.abstract | Microsatellite Marker: The Promising Molecular Marker. Joko Prasetiyono and Tasliah. Microsatellite or simple sequence repeats (SSR) or short tandem repeats (STR) containing 1-6 nucleotide repeat sequence are abundant and well distributed all along the chromosome arms (in contrast to minisatellite which are more abundant close to the telomere in human), highly polymorphic, and hypervariable. Microsatellite markers are a valuable tool for genetic analysis, genome mapping, genome selection, gene tagging, germplasm characterization, cultivar identification, etc. It have been made on many species by hybridization or based on DNA database, to prove very useful in a variety of research areas involving plant system. Automated SSR analysis are gradually replacing manual systems because reducing time consumption and more samples can be analyzed. In the future, SSR analysis will be the most popular molecular markers for any purpose on any species. | en_US |
