dc.descriptionGummosis which is characterized by gozing of brown gum from infected stem is found to affeet cashew plants (Anacardium occidentale L) at Cikampek Experimental Garden, West Java. The cause of the disease has not been identified. Isolation of fungi and bacteria from diseased stems showing gummosis was made to find out the casual agent as sociated with the disease. Isolates of fungi and bacteria were inoculated into young cashew plants to test their pathogenicity. Result showed that one isolate of fungus which is identified as Botryodiplodia sp. Was consistently causing diseased symptoms in inoculated plants. Infection occurred through wounding part of tissue. Artificial infection on young shoot of cashew seedlings caused blackening on petioles and respective leaves may be badly affected and fallen down. Infected main stem starting from the tip until the base of stem become blackening and dying. Infection in older tissue caused gummosis. Pyenidia containing 1 and 2 celled conidia were produced in diseased tissues and on culture of the fungus grown on medium with half dose of PDA under continuous fluorescent light (800 lux).id-ID
