| dc.description.abstract | Rust disease (Phakopsora pachyrhizi Syd.) is one of the causes of low soybean productivity. This pathogen is spread in various soybean production areas in Indonesia. The aim of the study was to determine the morphological character and pathogenicity of P. pachyrhizi that attacks soybean plants in Cikeumeuh, Bogor. The pathogenicity of P. pachyrhizi was determined by observing the intensity of rust disease of 12 soybean genotypes planted in the Cikeumeuh Experimental Station, Bogor. Disease observation and removal of sick leaf were made when the plants were 65 days old after planting. Morphological characters of P. pachyrhizi were carried out microscopically by measuring the length and width of the uredospores of each observed leaf. The results showed that P. pachyrhizi caused rust disease in all tested soybean genotypes with disease intensity ranging from 4.4-40.0%, the lowest and highest rust disease intensity occurred in G-33 and G-5 lines, respectively. Meanwhile, the intensity of rust disease in the two compared varieties, Detap and Grobogan, was 20.0 and 40.0%, respectively. Uredospores of P. pachyrhizi isolate from Cikeumeuh Experimental Station generally have an oval shape with length and width ranging from 23.4-41.0 m and 19.1-31.9 m with a ratio (p/l) ranging from 1.2-1.4. The information of pathogenicity and characters of P. pachyrhizi from Cikeumeuh Experimental Station is useful for selecting resistance in breeding soybeans resistant to rust. | en_US |
