Beras mereh menjadi salah settt pctngc,l pokok pilihan masyarakat karera nilai gizi dan kemanfaatannya. Pengembangan berus merah cli Sulawesi selatun masih terus ditingkatkan ksrena pengetahuan ntasyarakat Sulat+,esi selatan stdah muicti rneningkat mengenai kandungan berus merah, sehinggt permintaen beras merah mulai meningkat. Varielas beras merah sudah banyak clikembangkan oleh lembagct penelitian seperti Badan Litbang Pertanian , sehingga tekstur yang awulnya keras :ekarang sudah ada yang pulen sehingga masyarakat tertarik mengkonsumsi beras merqh tersebut.
