dc.descriptionThe utilization of agricultural solid waste sometimes inhibited by the characteristics of the material itself which is bulky causing some difficulties in controlling the process of energy conversion automatically. One of the efforts to improve the quality of fuel from agricultural solid waste is by converting it into fuel pellet for a substitution of wood pellet commodity which is already available on the market and the demand is increasing. Indonesian Center for Agricultural Engineering Research and Development (ICAERD) has developed a unit machine of pellet production consisting of powdering machine, mixer and pelleting mill with a capacity of 100 kg / hour. In this paper, the performance test was conducted specific to the raw material of rice husk using two treatments of 4% tapioca binder and without binderapplications. The pelleting performance was very dependent on the biomass characteristic itself, pressing smoothly when the pressing barell reaching between 60-80oC. Analyses of rice husk pellets revealed that the binder did not significantly affect the length and diameter of pellets, but affected the single weight of the pellet. The binder influenced the average single pellet weight, in which the pellet with binder was heavier than that of without the binder. The density of pellets after being stored for 14 days was not change significantly either pellets with binder or without binder. The water contents of pellets were on average less than 10%; the estimated heating value was 14.4-15.2 MJ / kg; the ignition point of combustion was 278oC and the burnout point was 454oC.PERFORMANCE TEST OF BIOMASS PELLET PLANT MACHINERY USING RICE HUSK AS RAW MATERIALAbstrakPemanfaatan limbah padat pertanian terkadang terhambat pada karakteristik bahan itu sendiri yang bersifat kamba, mengakibatkan konversinya menjadi energi sulit dikontrol secara otomatis. Upaya untuk meningkatkan kualitas bahan bakar dari limbah padat pertanian adalah dengan cara mengubahnya menjadi bio-pellet. Bio-pellet ini dapatdijadikan substitusi komoditas pellet kayu yang telah ada di pasaran dan permintaannya semakin meningkat di pasar dunia. Balai Besar Pengembangan Mekanisasi Pertanian (BBP Mektan) telah melakukan pengembangan unit mesin produksi bio-pellet dengan komponen mesin terdiri dari mesin pengecil ukuran, mesin pencampur dan mesin pencetak pellet kapasitas 100 Kg/jam. Pada makalah ini dikhususkan pada uji kinerja mesin yang dilakukan dengan menggunakan bahan baku sekam padi dengan dua perlakuan, yaitu dengan bahan pengikat tapioka 4% dan tanpa bahan pengikat. Proses pencetakan pellet sangat tergantung dari sifat bahan biomasa itu sendiri. Bio-pellet sekam dapat tercetak dengan kualitas yang baik ketika suhu ruang pengepres mencapai 60-80oC. Analisis kualitas Biopellet sekam memperlihatkan bahwa bahan pengikat tidak mempengaruhi panjang dan diameter pellet, namun mempengaruhi berat satuan pellet, dimana pellet dengan bahan pengikat rata-rata sedikit lebih berat dibandingkan tanpa bahan pengikat. Pellet setelah penyimpanan selama 14 hari memperlihatkan tidak terjadinya perubahan bentuk yang signifikan baik pellet yang dengan bahan pengikat maupun tanpa pengikat. Kadar air pellet yang dihasilkan rata-rata < 10%; perkiraan nilai kalor 14,4-15,2 MJ/kg; dan titik awal pembakaran (ignition point) 278oC, titik habis terbakar (burnout) 454oC.en-US
