Description:
Sesame is an nutritionally and important oil crop commercially. An effort to increase sesame productivity through breeding with induced mutation by gamma rays (Co-60) irradiation on sesame population is possible by improvement yield and yield components. This study was aimed to generate scientific knowledge to identify effect of induced mutation by gamma rays irradiation in quantitative characteristics and yield of sesame in M4 generation. Two sesame types (black and white) were irradiated with eight doses (100-800 Gy) of Co-60 individually. Numbers of morphological mutations have been reported in sesame and several of these mutations have been shown to exhibits modification several characteristics (stem height from base to the first branch, number of capsules/plant, biomass yield/plant and seed yield/plant).
