Herb productivity of some Mentha spp. at high altitude area in West java.A field trial on four Mentha spp. was under taken to study their herb productifity in Gunung Putri Experimental garden-West Java which has an Andosol soil type with rainfall type A and the altitude is 1500 m above mean sea level. A randomized block design with six replications and four treatments of M. piperita L., M. Canadensis L., M. merdinah Back ex Ochse & Bakh and M. arvensis L. var. javanica (BI.) Hook was used.The highest yield of fresh herbs (stems, leaves and stolons or runners) harvesting from the crops at 4.8 months after planting was obtained from M. piperita (5.40 ton/ha) followed by M. Canadensis (3.54 ton/ha); M. merdinah (2.50 ton/ha) nad the lowest from M. arvensis L. var. javanica (0.57 ton/ha). Refer to the yield of fresh herbs, M. piperita gave asignificant different agains either by M. Canadensis or M. merdinah.The highest yield of fresh herbs without is stolons (leafty stems) was obtained from M. Canadensis (3.54 ton/ha)followed by M. merdinah (2.18 ton/ha), M. piperita (1.50 ton/ha) and the lowest from M. arvensis L. var. javanica (0.55 ton/ha). M. Canadensis gave a significant different agains either M. piperita or M. arvensis L. var. javanica.In the tropical mountaineous area, M. piperita gives higher stolons/leafty stems ratio, but on the other hand the tree other species give the opposite value.M. arvensis L. var. javanica did not grow well in the high altitude and sintable in lower land only M. piperita, M. Canadensis, and M. merdinah give no flower during their existing growth.
