Abstract
Description
As a potential commodity patchouli (Pogostemon cablin BENTH) has significant prospect to be developed, because the essential oil of this commodity is profitable. A study of physical and thermophysical properties of patchouli leaves was carried out. The objectives of this study were to experimentaly determine the physical dimensions bulk density, apparent density, inter particle space ratio and specific beat of patchouli leaves. While effecting the moisture content secured, the bulk density, total surface area, volume and specific beat value will increased with the increasing of moisture content. On the otherhand inter particle space ratio decreased with the increasing of moisture content. The apparent density value was first decreased at the moisture content up to 37.37%, then increased up to 80.54% (m.c). The bulk density, apparent density and specific surface area value increase as the load increase. However, interparticle space ratio decrease as the load increase. Physico-chemical properties, particularly optic rotation was given depending on the level of moisture content.
