AbstractCentral Kalimantan Province covers an area of 15,380,000 ha which consist of 61,140 ha coastal region, 1,533,492 ha open waters and 13,785,431 as continental area. The continental area consist of various type of lands e.g. acid sulphate, peats soils and up land. The wide area and high variability of land may cause variability of vegetation found in Central Kalimantan, some of which may not he found in other areas. Fruit crops are plenty found in Central Kalimantan. Local people named the fruits based on its performance such as shape, colour and thickness of the flesh fruits. Some of those fruits are local varieties of commonly known fruits, while some others are specific fruits that are not found elsewhere. Those fruits need to be collected and characterized both for conservation and breeding purposes.AbstrakProvinsi Kalimantan Tengah memiliki luas wilayah 15.380.000 ha yang terdiri atas 61.140 ha wilayah pantai, 1.533.492 ha perairan umum, dan 13.785.431 ha daratan. Wilayah daratan ini terdiri atas berbagai tipologi lahan seperti lahan sulfat masam, gambut, dan lahan kering. Konsekuensi dari beragamnya tipologi lahan adalah beragamnya vegetasi yang tumbuh, beberapa di antaranya tidak dijumpai di daerah lain. Buah-buahan adalah tanaman yang banyak dijumpai di Kalimantan Tengah. Penduduk lokal memberi nama buahbuahan berdasarkan bentuk, warna dan tebal daging buah, serta ciri-ciri lainnya. Buah-buahan tersebut terdiri atas varietas lokal yang umum dikenal dan yang tidak dijumpai di tempat lain. Plasma nutfah buah-buahan ini perlu dikoleksi dan dikarakterisasi untuk keperluan pelestarian maupun bahan untuk pemuliaan tanaman. Dalam kegiatan eksplorasi yang dilakukan di Kabupaten Barito Selatan dan Barito Timur telah ditemukan beberapa buah-buahan spesifik Kalimantan Tengah, yaitu jenis rambutan, durian, dan kasturi.
