EnglishThe aim of rice-price support and input-subsidy schemes is to increase domestic rice production and farmers' income. Employing the Cobb-Douglas profit function approach, the present study found that the lowland rice farmers in South Sulawesi and West Sumatera are profit maximisers, the production exhibits constant return to scale, and equal economic efficiency of small and large farm size and of two regions exists. In order to increase both rice production and farmers' income, the relative prices of inputs and output should be lowered.IndonesianTujuan kebijaksanaan harga padi dan subsidi harga input adalah untuk meningkatkan produksi beras dan pendapatan petani. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan fungsi keuntungan Cobb-Douglas, studi ini menemukan bahwa petani padi sawah di Sulawesi Selatan dan Sumatera Barat memaksimumkan keuntungannya, produksi bersifat constant return to scale, dan terdapat kesamaan dalam efisiensi ekonomik antara petani sempit dan petani luas dan antar daerah. Untuk meningkatkan produksi beras dan pendapatan petani, harga relatif input terhadap output perlu diturunkan.
